Describe the columns and the data points as much as you can and AI will do the rest. You need to do this and the next two steps only once per problem.
Define Objective / Goal Function
What is it that you want to maximize or minimize? You can explain it in natural language and use mathematical expressions when needed.
Define Rules
Use natural language to describe constraints / limits to follow when maximizing or minimizing the objective function(s). Again, you can use mathematical expressions if needed.
Schedule a Run
Provide values for any additional variables and kickoff the optimization engine! You can schedule multiple runs at the same time with different variable values, rules to compare multiple results at once and choose the best option.
Analyze Results
You can analyze and visualize the results within the platform. The platform also offers additional insights into the factors limiting the overall results.
Once the problem is set up and you want to run it with new data, you can upload the new file(s) and go directly to Step 5.

When is FernOpt not the right choice for your optimization problem?
If your problem needs answers in seconds, FernOpt is not currently the right choice. To keep costs low and bring cutting-edge technology to small and medium-sized businesses at an affordable price, we run our computations asynchronously. In exchange, you get your answers in minutes while saving significantly on computing costs.
Do you use our problems and data to train AI or improve your solver?
No. You own your data, and results. We use them only to run, secure, and support the Service for you. We never use them to train or fine-tune any AI or machine-learning model or any solver, and we don't let our service providers do so either. We do track usage statistics, such as problem size and structure, run times, and outcomes, to plan capacity and calibrate pricing quotes. These never include the content of your problems or data. What happens to our data if we cancel?
You keep access to view and download your data for 90 days after your subscription ends. We hold it for six months in total, then delete it from our production systems within 30 days. Your account administrator can ask for earlier deletion at any time.
How does pricing work?
Each plan includes credits (monthly or annual), and a credit is the unit used to run a problem. You can buy more any time at your plan's rate: $18 each on Core, $15 on Plus, and $12 on Max.
Will I know what a run costs before I start?
Yes. Before every run you see the maximum credits it can use, and it starts only after you approve. You are never charged more than that number, and you need enough balance to cover it.
What if my problem solves quickly or can't be solved?
You often pay less than the maximum. If an optimal solution is found in under a quarter of your plan's runtime limit, you pay a quarter of the quote, and under half pays half, with a minimum of 1 credit when a solution is found. Problems we detect as infeasible during preprocessing, or unbounded, are free, since those are usually modeling errors.
What happens if a run fails because of a platform problem?
It's free, and it doesn't count toward your daily run limit.
Do credits expire?
Credits included in your plan expire at the end of your billing period, monthly or annual. Credits you buy expire one year after purchase.
Can I change or cancel my plan?
You can upgrade any time and pay the prorated difference, with matching credits added. Downgrades and cancellations take effect at the end of your current term. New customers usually start monthly and can switch to annual within the first 60 days, with the annual price applied back to their start date.
What help do I get, and is there a free trial?
Every plan includes expert help setting up your problem: 3, 6, or 9 hours per year on Core, Plus, and Max. Email support responds within 2 business days (1 on Max). Custom integrations on Max are scoped and priced separately. We don't offer a free trial. Book a demo and we'll make sure the platform fits your use case.
